NO! My car runs the same ET on a slick or a Drag Radial... Not really fair to the guys running on a true radial...

OK, but I have to ask, are you going to run Street ET?

I did last yr in my other GTO Joe. I ran over 98 mph on a wal mart 275/60-15. If you want you can make a drag radial class and state it up front to put everyone on a level field.

Joe you know my opinion on this but isn't everyone already on a level field if it's bracket racing? Lineberry was winning the no/e class with a 10 second eighth mile time.. Making jus a drag radial class doesnt seem possible considering the street class is as small as it is. And I read your post about the E.t. would get outta hand but what about making a max E.t. for street before you have to move up to no/e? What my predicament is Johnny is that I'm not experienced enough for the no/e and street radials running outside the groove with not hold my car which is my DD.

Then you are in the same predicament as anyone else running on a true radial. Last yr I was out of it at least 3 times every pass on true radials and still won some scratch. The tire is the limiting factor in Street ET as it should be otherwise the guy in the other lane slipping his tire running outside the groove is not an even match for someone in the other lane in the groove on a drag radial... no way that could be fair IMO...

Post by Joe Mumma on Apr 30, 2012 12:49:28 GMT -6
Actually i do disagree on the tire being a limiting factor, only because its not heads up. Its meant to be an entry level bracket class. I did rule against drag radials in street et only because of consistancy. (And im sure thats what you meant johnny)
I tell you guys what we may do, on points weekends, we may let radial tire cars run in the groove. There have been so few, i dont think it will tear the track up to bad. On heads up nights though, i want to keep all radials out of the groove still yet.
Maybe some ballast in your trunk is the answer lol.
I will talk to the guys that enter street et this weekend and we will vote on the drag radial issue.

Lol slipping would not be the word I would use to describe my last visit to the track lol.. 8.23 best with 3.23s rear gear last year vs. a 9.90 with 3.73s this year. If et street drags were allowed in the class then everyone has an opportunity to be in the groove..

And the only arguement I have joe about the consistency is I was running within 2 to 3 hundredths off time with 275/40 17 raptors before the gears screwed my world up lol.. But reaction time and pressure got me everytime when I ran in the no/e class..

Yes Joe, I meant consistancy...
Rosco - I do not run No/E but would if I wasn't running indexes. Last yr I ran street ET in my other 69 GTO (not the one in my signature line) and it is capable of high 6 ET's on drag radials and low 8's on true radials. I ran it on true radials and pedaled it every pass down the track... I never expected anyone else to make concessions to make the class fit my car as it is what it is and I ran on the same tires everyone else did. If they were low powered enough to not slip a tire then so be it. I chose to run a car that could over power the tire at any point in the 1/8th mile but that was my choice...
Otherwise just make the class a slow ET bracket, maybe 8 flat and slower and just let anyone that makes that break run in it on any tire they chose to run on...

I'm not asking to change the class just for me.. Just a suggestion for cars that are actual DDs and on the quick side. And honestly I don't think many people would object to it jus being a low E.T. Bracket running on what tire works. Considering most are running in the no/e bracket too. But I may be wrong? In short I jus love to haul ass down the track not feather it all the way down lol. I'm sure we can at least agree on that lol.

I know centerville allows drag radials I'm street and some of the super pro and NO-E drivers spouses run street there and have said on the previous face book pages that they would love to come and race street in their cars when there spouses do but they have drag radials I don't know what it would hurt to allow them it is an entry level bracket class in which you are supposed to be learning how to make a good reaction time and to dial a car in and if your spinning every round then you won't be able to learn anything just saying I don't run street unless my car is broke but don't know why it would matter because the tires ARE DOT approved..

Jimmy - where do you cut it off then... I don't run brackets so you are saying I should be able to run street in my GTO on Drag radials to learn? If that is the way it is then I can do that... nobodies gonna like it but I can do it and will if they allow them... Sounds like fun!
BTW - Oilfield Trash is correct about Centerville...

johnny- Ain't gonna hurt my feelings none! But do you at least agree it's a decent experience jump from street to no/e? I know for a fact it is when the beginning of last year i won the first few weekends in street then had to run in no/e because no one showed up for street and i was out by the second round lol. And your taking advantage of what jimmy said about learning I think jus a lil. Jimmy is right i haven't been able to cut a decent light or run anywhere near consistent.. I'm not trying to get over on anybody or win every weekend here.. It's not like the street class pays that much change lol. Guess no/e is where I'll be if keeping drag radials out of the street class makes everyone peachy.

Well if they aren't allowed at centerville they used to be because it was John Normans wife that said that she ran them and she runs street in brackets every weekend there but they could have changed it.where you draw the line is at say 8.50 because I hate setting there for several seconds waiting to leave but have done it a lot LOL

Just looked and guess you are right Kevin and they changed it there sorry I was wrong. It doesn't matter to me either way.

I may be slow...lol, but how would an et cap make any difference as far as the drag radial deal goes? Even with a cap, drag radials would have an advantage as far as consistency.
The more i think about it, i think we better leave drag radial out of street et, because drag radials do work as well as slicks. And i know everyone has the opportunity to run them if allowed, but everyone has the opportunity to run nitrous, turbo etc. And race heads up, but they dont! Lol
I will start allowing street et in the grove on every night except shootout nights.

roscochildress...quit cryn around about not bein able to hook when ur running a tire with no sidewall....run a 15 inch rim with a good side wall and deflate it to 15 0r 18 psi...then u might hook its a bracket class just learn to cut a light..dnt worry about the other guy..

Sounds like we need a trophy class. Tulsa had that class back in the 90s.I think we need a class like that for the ones that are just starting out,so they can learn how to cut a light, and dial their car.

Sounds like we need a trophy class. Tulsa had that class back in the 90s.I think we need a class like that for the ones that are just starting out,so they can learn how to cut a light, and dial their car. Not a bad idea, Ozark still does this: Entry Fee: $20 Buy Back: $10 Trophy Winner Trophy R/U If there are enough cars, we'll split the class into two (2) different sides, the winner of each side to run each other for the finals. 1) Class A: Anything with drag slicks 2) Class B: Anything with street tires This class is for full bodied cars running a 1/8 mile bracket format. (No dragsters. Left-hand steer roadsters with fenders will be allowed) The class will be ran on a five tenths full tree all run format. Deep staging will not be allowed. No delay boxes, delay boxes must be removed from car. Throttle stop controllers, automated throttle stops or automated shifters (electric or pneumatic) must be disabled. Any device that relays vehicles on track performance, other than OEM, is prohibited. Line locks on non-driven wheels only. Line locks may not be used as a launching device. All wiring to line lock must be visible and traceable. Transbrakes may not be used as a launching device. Two or thre e step rev limiters are prohibited. Single stage rev limiter is acceptable but cannot be used as a launching device. Clutch launched, stick shift vehicles may use line lock on starting line to prevent vehicle from rolling. Clutch launched, stick shift vehicles may use single stage rev limiter to control starting line RPM. Timed ignition interruption devices (stutter boxes) and MSD 7531 ignition boxes are also prohibited.

I would do a trophy class....but so far there has only been 3 or 4 in Street ET.
Its hard for me to figure out what classes would work with the car counts being so low. Even NO/E or Some/E lol has been way low compared to previous years.

I vote for regular street tires in street class. Will move to drag or street ET radials when drag car is finished being built. Street is to learn in and thats what I am doing at 62 years of age. Thanks for the opportunity to race and learn!
